Like so many critical abilities, communication is learned as an infant, and many of us assume that there is nothing left to learn. Before persuasion, the ability to simply, clearly, and impactfully communicate is a skill of enormous worth.
Communication begins not with you, but with your audience. How do they need to hear your message so that it is clear and impactful? Your ego and impressive vocabulary are not only irrelevant, they’re highly detrimental. It is not about you. It is about your Mission, and your ability to inspire your teammates to join you in achieving your Mission. And if we’re being honest with ourselves, sadly, we probably remember “got milk” more clearly than, “A man of genius makes no mistakes. His errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery. (thanks google!)”
